Best Time to Buy: February

Shopping Savings
on February 7, 2014

Obscure holiday or amazing time to save? Sure, President’s Day sales seem kitschy, but several hot ticket items go for highly reduced prices in the month of February. Honoring executives of yesteryear and saving money is a patriotic combination we can dig. Based on great sales we saw in 2013, check out our short list of suggested items and retailers offering February deals.

For the Fashionista

Despite the seemingly ever-present polar vortex, retailers have flowy dresses, strappy sandals and bathing suits on the brain. In February, major retailers continue to unload fall and winter merchandise and make room for warm weather apparel, which means even deeper discounts this month. This is the ideal time to snag more costly closet staples like coats and higher-end boots. Guys—don’t feel left out in the cold. You can score equally great deals on outerwear and winter footwear.

For the Tech Guru

Black Friday deals make November the optimum time to purchase flat screen televisions, but President’s Day sales are a very close second. If you’ve been considering a new flat screen TV, now is a great time to buy—imagine what this could be mean come 2014 football season. Other electronics like tablets and digital cameras also experience price reduction in preparation for newer models set to debut in spring and summer.

For the Health Conscious

The road to savings is paved with good intentions and New Year’s resolutions. Fitness equipment (and apparel) sells well in January, but sales slow down in February. Be on the lookout for sales on higher ticket items like elliptical machines and treadmills. Another pro shopping tip: allot plenty of time when shopping for fitness equipment, and wear comfortable clothes. Most retailers will allow you to test out a floor model in-store before you buy.

For the Home Decor Enthusiast

The close of winter promises new silhouettes and fresh fabrics in furniture. Specialty retailers and department stores begin to slash prices on items like sofas and chairs from past collections. Get a jump on spring cleaning by freshening up a tired room with new furniture. Decorative accessories usually have an accompanying sale, which helps spice up a room without the commitment of entirely new furniture.
